Makkah Masjid has been running a series of workshops and seminars on the issue of marriage given the problems many families are facing when it comes to this issue.
Islam strongly encourages marriage, in fact the Prophet (peace be upon him) said “When a person gets married he has completed half of his religion, so let him fear Allah with regard to the other half.” [Bayhqi]
From this we can glean marriage is a strongly recommended Sunnah. Furthermore marriage can be a great tool of self improvement and is amongst the greatest blessings Allah can bestow on a person along with the creation of a family where taking care of that family is amongst the greatest acts of worship.
Throughout many cultures marriage has been traditionally arranged, however this has changed in the past 100 years and while many British Muslims are open to the notion of an arranged marriage, a suitable spouse is not always found. There are many who are frustrated at how difficult it is to meet Muslims with the result being youth who are left confused and discouraged about how to approach marriage while remaining within the Islamic boundaries.
