Lets Talk – Young Muslims Workshop
Administrator on February 5th, 2008
Makkah Masjid will be holding a special event on Sunday, 10 February after Zuhar prayer for the youngsters in our community, targeted particularly at the 16 plus age group. The purpose of the event is to listen to and identify the needs of the youth living in Leeds. This is seen as an important part of Makkah Masjid’s ongoing efforts in engaging with our young people to engender a sense of community and connection with the Masjid, an institution that is central to Muslims.
It is hoped that this event will help understand the issues facing the youth and convey a message encouraging participation and partnership with the Masjid. The message to the youth will be that the mosque can make a real difference to address their issues but it requires the youth to be part of delivering the services that the youth believes will encourage them to use the mosque regularly.
The objectives for the event are as follows: (1) identifying 2-3 regular activities that are wanted in the Mosque and/or the affiliated Community Centre for the coomunity to deliver; (2) identify 8-10 key indivduals from the 16+ group who can be encouraged to get more involved and volunteer for future events/activites; (3) inform the youth about the current activities; for instance, the Sunday Classes, Sunday Drop-in, study circles monthly dhikr and weekly sports activities. .

It was an excellent event – I really enjoyed it. Please hold more of this sort of events where the youth can air their views.
